All animals are equal. But some animals are more equal than others.

Animal Farm, George Orwell

History holds evidence that hunger and starvation is an effective, far more economic, and perhaps an even more horrific tool compared to a nuclear warhead to curb a dissenting, overwhelming population.

They can be washed off as collateral damage, or unpredictable circumstances, or an Act of God, denying any accountability, or responsibility of the institutions in charge. Creating a resource sieve for the rich and the affluent ensures that the economically and socially disadvantaged citizens are murdered by an instinctual, biological, fundamental need — to eat. Political ambitions of a nation have often outweighed the dignity of its disadvantaged citizens; if dignity was allowed in the first place.

We take a look at the famines of the last century with the data and resources that are available to us — in an attempt to understand the gravity of a crumbling and imploding economy. If any of you have a first person account or stories you have heard from your family to share of any of these events, please get in touch with me at bipedalblob@gmail.com. What we do with that understanding, is a question and choice each of us has to consider.
